Merzouga
Merzouga is a quaint village located in southeastern Morocco, approximately 35 kilometers southeast of Rissani, around 55 kilometers from Erfoud, and about 50 kilometers from the Algerian border. It is well-known for its close proximity to Erg Chebbi, a stunning Saharan dune region, making it a popular stop for tourists exploring Morocco. Merzouga boasts the largest natural underground water reservoir in the country. In 2006, the village faced severe flash floods that displaced 1,200 residents and tragically led to some fatalities. Nearby the Erg Chebbi dunes, you can find lesser-known villages like Hassilabied (4 km away), Tanamoust (3 km away), Takoujt (1.5 km away), Khamlia (7 km away), and Tisserdmine (15 km away).
